Communities, ideas and institutions in Europe (c. 1200 - c. 1650)
The aim of this project is to build up an international research network working on the development of political representation and representative institutions in late medieval Europe. It will cross traditional chronological and geographical boundaries, thus providing a comprehensive and comparative view on political ideas and institutional developments from the 13th to the 17th century.
In June 2011 the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) awarded a group of scholars from the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Leiden and Huyens ING), Belgium (Antwerp and Louvain) and Scotland (Stirling) with an internationalization grant. One of the outcomes of the project will be a proposal for a European research project which should unite both researchers who work on political and institutional history and those working on the history of ideas. In order to build up a network of scholars, a series of three workshops is planned in the years 2012-2014.
